Dec 28, 2020 · I saw a video the other day that compared, the Pixel 5 camera to the Pixel 1 with the original software. To my eyes, the photos on the Pixel 1 were better in nearly every shot. The overreliance on machine learning and hdr to catch EVERY detail in the background has come at the cost of contrast and lifelike colors for the primary subject.

I'm eyeing the 5, S20 FE, and the OnePlus 8T that will be announced in two weeks. If the Pixel 5 is $700, then it's going to be a tough call. The Pixel 5 is my first Pixel after using a variety of Android phones and even venturing to the iPhone side for two years. The Pixel 5 is a great phone, but there are a few inexcusable shortcomings. You feel the slowness of the processor when searching the settings for a keyword. It also rears its ugly head when taking photos.

The symmetrical thin bezels on the pixel 5 make it look better (IMO) than the pixel 6 with a slightly thicker chin. I also like that pixel 5 is more compact in hand. Obviously pixel 6 will have better features than pixel 5 since it is a newer phone, but I still like pixel 5 more.
