Authorities said the suspect held hospital workers hostage, opened fire and shot people including a doctor, a nurse, a custodian, and 3 officers.

The suspect, Diogenes Archangel Ortiz, entered the hospital with handgun and zip ties Saturday morning and took several staff members hostage, state officials said.

Andrew Duarte spent more than six years as a police officer and just recently celebrated his 30th birthday before his life was taken in the UPMC Memorial Hospital shooting.
