The Boston Red Sox made their first move ahead of the Major League Baseball trade deadline, bringing veteran pitcher Steven Matz.

Matz should throw a lot of curveballs and sinkers. He has used his sinker 59.4% of the time this season. He has thrown it more than 50% in every season except 2022 when he used it 48.5%. He’s in the 89th percentile in fastball run value.

The Boston Red Sox are finally on the board at the 2025 MLB trade deadline. According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the Red Sox are acquiring left-hander Steven Matz from the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for top-20 prospect first baseman Blaze Jordan.
