March 1 (UPI) -- Ramadan began Friday evening, marking the start of the holy month for some 1.8 billion Muslims worldwide. "The Supreme Court has decided that tomorrow, Saturday, is the first day of the month of [Ramadan]," the official Saudi Press Agency said on X Friday, after a crescent moon was seen above Saudi Arabia.

For Muslims across the world, the holy month of Ramadan has begun, and Muslims across Minnesota have started their daily fasts. Ramadan commemorates the first revelation of the Quran to Prophet Muhammad.

The holy month of Ramadan has begun with thousands of Muslims across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough taking part. It is the most important time in the Islamic calendar where Muslims fast and refrain from eating or drinking between dawn and sunset.
