Guardians starting pitcher Gavin Williams took a no-hitter into the 9th inning before a Juan Soto homer dashed his no-hit bid.

Cleveland’s starter nearly threw a no-hitter, pitching 8.2 innings, walking four batters, and striking out six. The only hit and run Williams allowed was a solo home run off the bat of Juan Soto in the bottom of the ninth inning with one out.

New York – Gavin Williams came within two outs of Cleveland’s first no-hitter in 44 years before Juan Soto homered with one out in the ninth inning, and the Guardians completed a three-game sweep of the reeling New York Mets with a 4-1 win Wednesday.
