Massachusetts gas companies proposing to slash energy bills by 10% for the rest of the winter season say their support of “clean energy initiatives” has contributed to the soaring utility costs bearing down on Bay Staters.

The Department of Public Utilities is demanding that the state's five gas companies cut residential gas bills by 5% starting next month.

State officials ordered gas utility companies to lower customer bills last week after many reported skyrocketing rates this year.
