Lawrence Lamont’s One of Them Days is a feel-good buddy comedy just when we need it the most: in the middle of a gloomy January. Dreux (Keke Palmer) is having one of those days when the universe seems to be conspiring against her.

The Issa Rae-produced film came together from the CoCre lab at Sony Pictures, which was a pact between Hoorae Media's ColorCreative and Sony Pictures to source and produce emerging diverse screenwriters to write and develop their first studio features based on original ideas.

The two have nine hours to get the rent money in a fast-talking day-in-the-life-of-the-hood comedy that's really a skewed portrait of a community.

Horror, not comedy, has been the go-to movie genre in recent years, but a movie like “One of Them Days,” starring Keke Palmer and, in her big-screen debut, SZA, is a good reminder of what we’ve been missing.
