Nearly a dozen bills have been filed ahead of the start of the Florida legislature’s special session. The measures seek to fulfill Gov. Ron DeSantis’ efforts to help President Donald Trump’s administration crack down on illegal immigration,

DeSantis called the special session on Jan. 13, declaring Florida faced an immigration crisis and needed to act swiftly to stem the flow of unauthorized immigrants coming to Florida. He also wanted to deal with condominium safety, hurricane relief, and ballot initiative reform.

Monday morning, the Florida House moved swiftly to end the session without taking any action and call its own special session on illegal immigration.
