Quinn Ewers threw two touchdown passes, both to undrafted free agent Theo Wease Jr., in a marked turnaround from a rough debut for the rookie quarterback in Miami's first preseason game last week.
Former Terp and current Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Jordan Phillips had an impressive game against the Detroit Lions on Saturday. The fifth-round selection contributed significantly in a 24-17 win by recording four tackles, one and a half sacks, a tackle for loss and two quarterback hits.
Rookie Jason Marshall Jr. has flashed but doesn’t seem ready for a major role. Isaiah Johnson, Cam Smith and rookies Ethan Robinson and BJ Adams are all firmly on the bubble, with Robinson helping himself a lot on Saturday and Smith playing well during an extended second-half appearance.
While many fans were hopeful that Ewers’ strong outing was enough to move him past Zach Wilson on the depth chart or at least spark a battle, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel made it clear that one game wouldn’t change anything.
