All-Star pitcher Shane Smith served up a 421-foot leadoff home run to Rockies center fielder Mickey Moniak, who later tagged him for a two-run triple as the Sox squandered an opportunity for their first sweep of the season against lowly Colorado.

Chicago White Sox shortstop Colson Montgomery made a spectacular over-the-shoulder catch in the second inning of his major league debut Friday night against Colorado, sprinting back and diving to grab Ryan Ritter’s broken-bat looper.

The Sox selected Montgomery with the No. 22 pick in the 2021 draft out of Southridge High School in southern Indiana. He has a .246/.364/.414 career slash line with 69 doubles, 48 home runs and 186 RBIs in 376 games during portions of five seasons in the Sox system.
