A 17-year-old boy was shot in the torso near a Brooklyn middle school on Thursday morning, police say. The incident happened just before 8:30 a.m. on Park Avenue and N Oxford Street, according to authorities.

Police said the 17-year-old victim was shot in the stomach, then went into the lobby of Dr. Susan S. McKinney Secondary School of the Arts. The school was placed under a brief shelter-in-place, which has since been lifted.

The victim, who is a student at a nearby school, was shot once in the abdomen by the gunman, who fled eastbound on Flushing Avenue, police said.
