Mt. Washington faces extreme weather with record gusts and avalanche risks
MOUNT WASHINGTON (WGME) -- It's been a busy week in the White Mountains and Mount Washington, with extreme wind gusts and avalanche warnings. On Monday, Mount Washington recorded a wind gust of 161 MPH. This is the observatory's highest daily peak wind gust since February 2019.
Mount Washington sees 161-mph wind gust, but doesn't reach record high
Mount Washington, known for its harsh and erratic weather, saw its wind gusts top out at 161 mph on Monday, the observatory reported. Wind speeds are relative however, the mountain still holds the record for the highest surface wind speed ever measured in the U.S. – 231 mph.
