Warsaw’s liberal mayor and his insurgent populist challenger are locked in a dead heat as they fight for the presidency of Poland, exit polls projected after Sunday’s head-to-head vote, leaving the country tilting between two wildly different political futures.
Populist Karol Nawrocki is slightly ahead of liberal Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski in a nail-biting presidential election.

Bogusław, 79, who is buying strawberries from another stall, chimes in as well. “The people voting for Trzaskowski are so stupid, he’s going to sell us out completely,” he says. “Polish farming will be non-existent, he’ll agree to anything. The EU will start importing [produce] from North African countries where everything is cheap.”
