(CNN) - Patients in the United States can now get the popular diabetes and weight loss drug Ozempic for half the price. Novo Nordisk, the maker of the GLP-1 drug Ozempic, announced Monday that U.S. patients can now get a month’s supply for just under $500. It typically carries a list price of around $1,000 a month.

The drug is available as a weight-loss medication under the brand name Wegovy and will now also be sold directly to diabetes patients

Shares of Novo Nordisk ( NVO 4.81%), the Danish pharmaceuticals company famed for Ozempic and Wegovy weight loss drugs, jumped 5% through 9:55 a.m. ET Monday on a series of positive announcements for its GLP-1 products.
