A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Sunday morning will be wet and windy with very strong and gusty southerly winds and widespread rain, heavy in many areas with some spot flooding. Rain will gradually clear eastwards through the afternoon with scattered blustery showers following, some heavy with isolated thunderstorms possible.

Southerly winds are expected to increase through Sunday morning, peaking late morning to early afternoon with gusts of 50-60mph (80-95 kmh), and perhaps as much as 70mph (112kmh) on the exposed Irish Sea coastline and some other areas of high ground.

Wet and windy weather is set to hit Ireland on Sunday as Met Eireann has issued a number of Weather Warnings. A Status Yellow Wind and Rain Warning has been issued for Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, Munster, Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo.

A further weather warning has been issued for Northern Ireland by the Met Office. The yellow alert for wind comes into force at 3am on Sunday, February 23, and will remain in force until 3pm on the same day. The alert covers the entire region. The forecaster said: " Strong winds may lead to some disruption on Sunday."

Northern Ireland is due for some unsettled weather over the next few days. Two yellow wind warnings have been issued by the Met Office. The first warning, for Friday morning, covers mainly the eastern counties.

A number of yellow weather warnings come into force on Friday morning across Northern Ireland, Wales and parts of Scotland.

The warning will come into effect on Sunday (February 23) between 3.00am and 3.00pm. The Met Office says southerly winds are expected to peak late morning to early afternoon with gusts of 50-60mph, and perhaps as much as 70mph on the exposed Irish Sea coastline and some other areas of high ground.
