Montreal Canadiens player Emil Heineman is expected to miss three to four weeks after being hit by a car while walking in downtown Salt Lake City a day before playing at the Utah Hockey Club. The team announced Tuesday that the 23-year-old Swedish forward was out with an upper-body injury after being involved in a pedestrian accident.

Heineman was hit by a car traveling at a low speed as he crossed a street by himself not far from the team hotel shortly after the Canadiens returned from practice Monday afternoon. As lucky as Heineman was to avoid serious injury, he is still expected to miss three to four weeks with an upper-body injury.

The NHL is back from its holiday break, and trades can resume after the lifting of the holiday roster freeze. So far, there have been 15 trades, four coaching changes, plus extensions signed by Igor Shesterkin,
