Drew Allar threw three touchdown passes and No. 5 Penn State bottled up Heisman Trophy runner-up Ashton Jeanty for a 31-14 win over No. 8 Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl, earning a spot in the College Football Playoff semifinals.

Penn State won the very first College Football Playoff Quarterfinal game, which was played on Dec. 31 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale. The Fiesta Bowl, which doubled as the playoff game, was played between Boise State and Penn State in front of 63,854 fans.

Boise State played a good game for the most part in this one, but the first quarter was a struggle. Perhaps it was because of all the time off, but the Broncos just didn't look ready to go out of the gates, and Penn State was able to take advantage.
