Kent County Prosecutor Chris Becker made his decision to not retry the murder charge against former Grand Rapids police officer Christopher Schurr, who shot and killed Patrick Lyoya.

A west Michigan prosecutor has decided not to retry former Grand Rapids Police Officer Christopher Schurr in the 2022 shooting death of Patrick Lyoya, a 26-year-old Congolese immigrant, after a mistrial was declared earlier this month on a second degree murder charge.
