GWADAR (Web Desk) – The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has finally something to cheer about as its first flight from the recently built Gwadar International Airport flew to Muscat on Friday.

The New Gwadar International Airport formally began its operations on Monday, welcoming its first commercial flight – PIA's PK-503 – that symbolised a new chapter in the country's aviation history and a step forward towards making Pakistan a hub of regional connectivity.

A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight landed at the Gwadar International Airport, making it the first commercial aircraft to arrive at the new airport after its inauguration on Monday. An official of the Pakistan Airport Authority (PAA) said in a statement that the first commercial flight, PK-503, had landed at the airport at 11:15am.

The newly inaugurated Gwadar airport in Balochistan has been branded a "donation" by the Chinese Communist Party's mouthpiece, Global Times. This even as Pakistan hailed the USD 230-million airport as a "symbol of friendship".

The Gwadar airport, funded under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), was initiated in March 2019 during Imran Khan’s tenure and inaugurated in October 2024 by Shahbaz Sharif.
