LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Friday marks one week since a deadly tornado ripped through several Kentucky communities. Throughout the week, we’ve brought you countless stories of survival and recovery. While one week has passed, it will take months, likely even years, for the community to pick up the pieces and rebuild.
A small church in the county is opening its doors — and its heart — to a community in crisis after one of the deadliest tornadoes in the state's history.

Dispatchers answered more than 600 calls during the storms and tornadoes. A deadly tornado tore through communities in Laurel County, leveling homes in its path. That tornado, which was confirmed to be an EF-4, claimed 19 lives. Seventeen of those deaths were in Laurel County.
