A tornado emergency has been issued for parts of northern Alabama as a large and destructive tornado tears through the area - with residents being told to seek shelter immediately.

The NWS issued a Tornado Warning for Southwestern Madison County in north central Alabama and Southeastern Limestone County in north central Alabama until 6:45 p.m.

Northern Alabama faced a powerful tornado, with storm chaser Reed Timmer documenting it with his data-reading instrument.
