A rare tsunami warning was issued for part of Alaska’s coast after a magnitude 7.3 earthquake struck near Sand Point in the Aleutian Islands. A small tsunami wave was measured at Sand Point, Alaska.

The giant earthquake was recorded at 12:37 p.m. local time, southeast of Sand Point, a community located on Popof Island in the Aleutian Chain.

Powerful earthquakes up to 7.4 magnitude struck Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula, triggering tsunami alerts across the Pacific before being lifted. Aftershocks continue as officials monitor the region.
