Los Angeles City Council District 14 candidate Ysabel Jurado declared victory over embattled incumbent Kevin de León on Thursday, Nov. 7, in what was the most watched and contentious city council contest that Angelenos witnessed this year.

Among the six candidates, Councilmember Joe Franklin was in the lead with 25.99% support, Nina Tarnay was in second wih 21.73% and Steve Charelian was third with 17.44%, according to the semi-official results of the Nov. 5 election, which the Los Angeles County registrar’s office released around 4 a.m. Wednesday.

Three Salinas City Councilmembers vying to keep their seat are trailing the competition after the first batch of election results Tuesday night.

Filipino American progressive candidate Ysabel Jurado, who held a lead over incumbent Kevin de León for the District 14 seat on the Los Angeles City Council, declared victory Friday, thanking her supporters and community for the win.

Incumbent Kevin de León has formally conceded defeat, putting an end a months-long battle between the councilman and progressive challenger Ysabel Jurado in the race to represent Los Angeles’$2 14th Council District.
