Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting at his residence on Wednesday in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, mostly tourists. Union Home Minister Amit Shah briefed the PM and discussed the measures to be taken in its aftermath.

Twelve tourists were taken to a hospital in Pahalgam and are in stable condition. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah condemned the attack, calling it an “abomination.” Prime Minister Modi spoke with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and directed a response to the situation.

At a late evening media briefing, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, announcing the decisions, said the overall strength of the Pakistani and Indian high commissions will be brought down to 30 from the present 55 through further reductions,
