Tayquon Young, 34, is recovering at Bellevue Hospital after having four fingers chopped off. Police say at the time of the attack the victim and the suspect each had a dog with them. Their meeting was captured on video from a deli sidewalk security camera on Southern Boulevard in the West Farms section of the borough.

A sweet and friendly pit bull named Chanel was missing her owner on Monday night. Rakeem Young is in the hospital after having three fingers surgically re-attached.

Only three of his four severed fingers were found, and reattached to his hand over the course of 13 hours of care in hospital.

A Bronx man is recovering in the hospital after he went out of his way to protect his beloved pup. Rakeem Young was out walking his four-year-old pit bull Chanel when the two were approached by a man with a machete. Young says he raised his hand to try to grab the weapon from the man when it sliced off four of his fingers.

As things escalated, the attacker yanked out a machete intending to attack his rival’s dog — but the victim stepped in to protect his pooch, cops said.

"If he would have sliced my dog’s head off like that, that would have broke my heart. That would have broke me for the rest of my life," victim Rakeem Young said
