KAHIKINUI (HawaiiNewsNow) - Maui Fire Chief Brad Ventura gives HNN the latest update on the Maui brush fire, Monday at 9:30 a.m. An Emergency Proclamation was signed Sunday at 6 p.m., by Lieutenant Governor Sylvia Luke, in response to a brush fire on Maui.
A quick-spreading brush fire fueled by strong winds in Kahikinui scorched 500 acres of South Maui land Sunday, but no injuries or structural damages have been reported, according to the Maui Fire Department.
The Maui Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) issued evacuation orders for homes near Mile Markers 24 and 25, with approximately 105 Kahikinui homestead lots in the area. Door-to-door evacuations were also conducted by Maui Police Department and MFD, according to an official update.
A 19-page letter began arriving last week with deadlines and instructions on how to file for part of the settlement.
An emergency evacuation order has been issued near Kahikinui due to an active brush fire, estimated to be up to 20 acres big, on Sunday morning.
