Scottie Scheffler kept a cool hand on the tiller to stay on course for his first British Open title with a serene 67 on a spectacular day of shot-making in Saturday's third round.
Rory's 56-footer for eagle sends crowd into frenzy Scottie Scheffler shot 4-under 67 Saturday to take a four-shot lead at 14 under par through 54 holes of the 153rd Open Championship. Haotong Li (69) is in solo second with Matt Fitzpatrick (71) alone in third.
But, with 36 holes left, the Claret Jug is still very much up for grabs. Scheffler is paired up with Matt Fitzpatrick, who held a share of the lead after Thursday and then backed that up with a 5-under 66 on Friday. He's starting just a shot back from Scheffler. Brian Harman and Haotong Li are tied at 8-under to start the day, too.
Home favourite Rory McIlroy birdied three of his first four holes to mount a third-round charge as world number Scottie Scheffler maintained his British Open lead in perfect scoring conditions on Saturday.

Scottie Scheffler, the No. 1-ranked golfer in the world, is looking for his fourth major win — and first at the British Open. The two-time Masters winner and 2025 PGA Championship winner has yet to claim either of the U.S. Open or The Open Championship, with wins in all four securing an illustrious career Grand Slam.
Scottie Scheffler was the pre-tournament favorite entering the 2025 Open Championship, but Rory McIlroy was the big story as he looked to put the heartbreak from 2019 in the past and capture the Claret Jug in his home country of Northern Ireland.
Xander Schauffele figured he needed a “blackout” performance Sunday at The Open to have any chance of catching Scottie Scheffler.
